What Does a Glasses-Free Life Look like to You?

Our eyes are as unique as our fingerprints, so there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to contact lenses.

To ensure you have the right type of contact lenses for your eyes, we recommend that all patients who currently wear or are considering contact lenses to undergo both a comprehensive eye exam and a contact lens exam.

Improperly fitted contact lenses are not only uncomfortable, but they can also compromise the clarity of your vision and pose a safety hazard to your eyes and damage your corneas.

Let our experienced team help you find the perfect pair of contact lenses for your eyes. Book your contact lens exam and fitting today.

FINDING THE RIGHT CONTACTS FOR YOUR EYES

Selecting the right contact lenses for your eyes and your lifestyle is a multi-step process:

Before we can help you choose the right style and brand of contact lenses for you, we need to examine your eyes. During your eye exam, we will ensure your medical history is accurate and up to date and answer any questions you may have.

We will then assess your eyes for any conditions that may prevent you from wearing contact lenses. We will determine your contact lens prescription during this exam, which is not the same as your eyeglasses prescription.

Once we have determined that you are a suitable candidate for contact lenses, we will measure your eyes. These measurements ensure that we recommend the contact lens style, power, and curvature best suited to your unique eyes.

Contact lenses are available in a wide variety of styles, shapes, and sizes. Finding the right match for you is important, and helps ensure that your eyes will be comfortable and remain healthy while supporting clear and stable vision.

To help us get accurate measurements, we use various tests and instruments, including corneal topography and anterior segment optical coherence tomography.

Once we have determined which style and brand of contact lens is best suited to your eyes, we will send you home with a trial pair. The trial phase allows you to confirm that the lenses we have provided you are comfortable, give you clear vision, and meet your visual and lifestyle needs.

Once you have had a chance to wear your trial lenses, we will meet with you again to make sure you are satisfied and that your eyes are adapting well. If you are happy with the trial pair, we will provide you with a copy of your contact lens prescription and order you a supply of contacts.

If your trial lenses are not quite right, are uncomfortable, do not provide you with clear vision, or are not working as they should, we will adjust accordingly by trying other powers, styles, or brands until you are satisfied.

OUR CONTACT
LENSES

Okotoks Eyecare offers a variety of contact lenses to suit your needs. These include:

Daily contact lenses are a popular form of soft contact lens that allows you to avoid the hassle of contact lens care. Daily contact lenses are available for most prescriptions and are a safe, comfortable, and economical contact lens option.

Multifocal contact lenses are similar to multifocal eyeglasses and offer a gradient of visual correction in one lens. Multifocal contact lenses are typically used to treat presbyopia, an ocular condition that makes it difficult to see up close as we age.

Aspheric multifocal contact lenses are a type of multifocal contact lens that can improve your depth of focus. These specialized lenses are structured so that the lens’s central portion provides you with clear distance vision, while the outer part of the lens allows you pristine near vision.

Toric contact lenses are specifically designed for individuals with astigmatism. Though most toric lenses prescribed today are made of a soft, highly breathable silicone.

Unlike spherical contact lenses, which feature only one prescription, toric lenses have a different prescription along the lens’s horizontal and vertical axes. As such, these lenses must remain rotationally stable throughout the day to provide you with clear vision. To achieve this, toric lenses feature a weighted portion near their bottom, which uses gravity to discourage rotation.

Proper Contact Lens Care

Your eye health depends on proper contact lens care. Though your specific care instructions will depend on which type of lens you are prescribed, all contact lens wearers should wash their hands thoroughly before inserting or removing their contact lenses. This helps to protect against exposing your eyes to bacteria and can help prevent infections.

You should only clean your contact lenses using an approved contact lens multi-purpose or hydrogen peroxide solution, and always use fresh contact lens solution when you store your contact lenses.

Replace your contact lens case at least every three months to prevent bacterial growth, though your optometrist may suggest you do this more frequently, depending on your cleaning system.
